Isabelle van Hapert researches anxiety in Parkinson’s disease (PD). PD is a neurodegenerative disorder primarily known for its motor symptoms, such as tremors and stiffness. However, many individuals with PD also experience a variety of non-motor symptoms, with anxiety being one of the most common. Anxiety has a significant impact on quality of life and overall well-being.
With a multidisciplinary approach, Isabelle aims to identify and categorise the various types of anxiety present in this neurodegenerative condition. She is interested in both the psychological and neurobiological mechanisms underlying this complex phenomenon. Her projects involve neuroimaging techniques, virtual reality mobility experiments, and neuropsychological network analyses.
