Inocêncio Joao Raul Zandamela is a deaf PhD candidate at the Centre for Linguistics. He is pursuing his degree in research on Sign Language Linguistics and Deaf Studies. He holds a Master’s degree in Science of Education from College of St. Rose, New York- US and a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Wits University in South Africa. With over 17 years of experience teaching and training in Sign Language (SL) across Mozambique and South Africa, he has worked in Deaf and inclusive education settings and with the Department of Special Education, conducting teacher training seminars on SL and Special Needs Education. He also co-authored the Mozambique Sign Language Dictionary and has served as a guest lecturer at two universities in Mozambique. His doctoral research, conducted under the Hands!LAB at the Centre for Linguistics, focuses on the emergence of sign languages. Inocencio is passionate about advancing people’s knowledge of SLs and Deaf cultural identity through research and training.
