Gaston Slupski is a lecturer and PhD candidate at the Institute of Political Science. An alumnus of Leiden University’s MSc in Political Science (2024), Gaston Slupski also holds a BA in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences (Sociology, Political Science) and a BA in Economics. In addition, he holds an MBA in Finance (Queen Mary University of London) and a postgraduate diploma in International Relations (King's College London).

Gaston Slupski is deeply passionate about comparative political economy, particularly on policy reforms in the welfare state and structural transformations in the labour market. In his PhD studies, he explores the political dynamics in modern societies that play a substantial role in the adoption of labour market reforms to address new labour market risks, such as skill mismatching and automation replaceability. Specifically, it aims to answer under which political conditions modern societies are most able to overcome new labour market risks through the adoption of labour market reforms, given increasing austerity measures, widespread skills gaps, and rapid technological advancements.
