Ernst-Jan de Bruijn
Ernst-Jan is a lecturer at the department of Economics.
Ernst-Jan de Bruijn obtained his PhD in Economics from Wageningen University in 2021. His PhD-thesis was entitled: "The Financial and Administrative Burden of Financially Vulnerable Households".
His research interests focus on the behavioral-economic perspective on poverty and over-indebtedness, economic decision making, and the role of social policy. In his studies, he investigates the impact of (changes in) social policy programs on several outcomes. Furthermore, he examines the determinants, consequences, and potential solutions for the administrative, financial, and psychological burdens faced by financially vulnerable households. To this end, he uses a mixture of methods including field experiments, quasi-experimental methods, structural equation modeling, and scale development. With his research, he aims to gain insight into the mechanisms underlying poverty and over-indebtedness and into the impact of social policy programs. Overall, he wants to contribute to the alleviation of poverty and over-indebtedness.
