I am a PhD student in Human Health Technologies and Sciences at the University of Palermo (Italy). My research focuses on the production of antimicrobial nanomaterials using actinomycetes, and on studying cellular adaptation and differentiation mechanisms in response to metalloids such as selenite and tellurite.
Research
My research focuses on the synthesis of metal-based nanomaterials with antimicrobial properties by actinomycetes, utilizing Kitasatospora spp. as a model organism. Additionally, I investigate how exposure to metalloids such as selenite and tellurite influences morphological differentiation and secondary metabolism.
Publications
The actinomycete Kitasatospora sp. SeTe27, subjected to adaptive laboratory evolution (ALE) in the presence of selenite, varies its cellular morphology, redox stability, and tolerance to the toxic oxyanion (doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2024.141712)
