Current research

Donna de Groene is a postdoctoral researcher working on food & feasting within the Inequal Cyprus project. Her research consists of analysis assemblages which are potential feasting deposits and conducting stable isotopic analysis on human and faunal remains to investigate difference in diet. For this research, she will be studying Chalcolithic and Prehistoric Bronze Age sites in Cyprus, a period in which consolidated social inequalities might have first emerged on the island.

Teaching activities

Donna has been involved in teaching activities including teaching zooarchaeology at Leiden University, Reading University and University College Cork.

Curriculum Vitae

Donna obtained both her BA and RMsc at Leiden University, during her master she also took zooarchaeology courses at the University of Groningen and at the University of Sheffield. After finishing her master degree she conducted a PhD at the University of Reading (UK). Her PhD project focussed on domestication and animal management in the Epi-Palaeolithic and Neolithic in current day Iran and Iraq.

After completing her PhD she held a postdoc position at University College Cork (Republic of Ireland), where she worked on animal mobility and management in Iron Age Ireland.

For all her research projects she combined stable isotopic analysis with zooarchaeological analysis. She also enjoys being in the field and has participated in various field work projects, including in the UK, Turkey, Oman, and Iraqi Kurdistan.
