Diego is a software engineer, leading the development of an emotions recognition training tool project using game development and machine learning. This project will aid people with autism and social anxiety disorders in improving their emotion recognition skills.

Career & expertise

Diego obtained a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) in 2016. Throughout his undergraduate years, he was actively engaged in science-related projects, with a primary focus on software engineering research. During this period, he seized the opportunity to participate in a year-long exchange program at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA) in 2013/2014. During his time at HvA, he pursued two minors: one in Game Design and the other in Game Development Technologies.

Furthering his academic pursuits, Diego earned a Master of Science in Computer Science from UFBA in 2020. His research during this phase revolved around Time Series forecasting using Machine Learning and Fuzzy Logic, specifically within the context of Smart Grids (Intelligent Power Networks).

Over the course of his career, he has gained significant experience, commencing as a Software Engineer in 2014 and branching into the domain of Game Development in 2017. He has had various roles in various organisations, involving the development of intricate game projects.

At present, Diego has a role at the Comparative Psychology and Affective Neuroscience lab (CoPAN), under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Mariska Kret. Here, Diego leads a pivotal project aimed at creating a tool designed to enhance Emotion Recognition training, with a particular emphasis on individuals grappling with autism and social anxiety disorders.
