My doctoral research focuses on emergence of private modern education, business networks and intercommunal relations in the eastern Mediterranean cities: Constantinople, Salonica, Smyrna (1830-1923). I am working on these ‘cosmopolitan’ port cities, beyond and before nation-state paradigm, as cities of cultural exchange. (Supervision: Dr. Petra de Bruijn and Prof. Dr. Erik-Jan Zürcher)
