Débora Wanderley is a postdoctoral researcher at Leiden University and a member of the project Through the Hand, led by Victoria Nyst. She is a Deaf Brazilian with close connections to the Deaf community in different regions of Brazil. Débora has a true passion for studying, researching, and teaching sign languages, particularly in the fields of linguistics, education and culture and also enjoys working as a translator, bringing written texts from spoken language into sign language.

Research
I research Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS – Língua Brasileira de Sinais) from both diachronic and synchronic perspectives, focusing on morphology. I hold degrees in Pedagogy and Linguistics, and completed a Master’s and PhD in Linguistics, where I deepened my interest in morphology and phonology.
