In 2015 Daan obtained his LLM in European Union law at Leiden University. After his studies in Leiden, Daan held a number of roles at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands from 2016-2021. From 2021-2023 he worked at the European Commission, DG International Partnerships, on inter alia Responsible Business Conduct and the implementation of the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive in supply chains. From 2020-2025, Daan wrote his doctoral research ‘Fundamental Labour Standards and the Shift from International to Transnational Labour Law – Countervailing Power in the Global World of Work’ at the Leiden Law School. Daan is currently an assistant-professor of international and transnational labour law at Leiden University. Alongside this, he is the Lead Technical Expert on Responsible Business Conduct and Value Chains at the International Trade Centre (a joint agency of the United Nations and World Trade Organization).
