Short CV
Carmen-Silva Sergiou obtained her master degrees in the master ‘Clinical Forensic Psychology’ at the University of Amsterdam. After the masters, Carmen did a PhD at the Erasmus University Rotterdam focusing on the effectiveness of using High-Definition transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (HD-tDCS) in increasing empathic abilities, reducing aggression and modulate electrophysiological responses in forensic substance dependent patients. For her dissertation she cooperated with Harvard Medical School in Boston in obtaining knowledge in coding and resting-state EEG analysis.
Research
Her research interests focus on the intersection of criminology, forensic- and neuropsychology. She is particularly interested in providing insight in the brain of (violent) offenders. She aims to contribute to research in innovative treatment solutions for the treatment in forensic care. But above all a mega brain enthusiast.
Currently, Sergiou is working as a postdoc on the Virtual Burglary Project of Prof. Dr. van Gelder. She is the PI in the coordination and data-collection in four prisons in the Netherlands working with virtual reality and eye-tracking with detained burglars.
