Bernat Bardagil is a researcher at the Centre for Linguistics. He is a linguist with an interest in Amazonian languages, especially Mỹky (isolate) and Panará (Jê). His research combines theoretical and descriptive approaches, drawing on fieldwork and comparative research. In his current project he investigates how different aspects of the speaker and the addressee, the interlocutors, are integrated into syntactic structure. He also works on language documentation and revitalisation, ethnomusicology, and the history of indigenous Amazonian peoples.

Research
As a syntactician, my research focuses on the morphosyntax of participants (case marking of core arguments, the syntactic status of obliques, the features that participate in cross-reference morphology, grammatical relations) and of interlocutors (interlocutor agreement, genderlects, honorificity, evidentiality, epistemicity). I also have a broad interest in the role of linguistics, ethnomusicology and ethnoarchaeology in allowing us to obtain glimpses into the deeper history of Amazonian indigenous nations. Language documentation and revitalisation have also become a central focus of my research as a linguist.
