Anouk van Vliet is a lecturer in political science at Leiden University. She completed a BSc in Political Science with a specialization in International Relations and Organizations (2019) and a MSc in Political Science with a specialization in Parties, Parliaments, and Democracy (2021). Her master’s thesis on the effect of Western influence on democratization in post-Soviet countries was shortlisted for the Institute’s Master thesis prize of 2021.

Besides, Anouk van Vliet is a PhD candidate at the Institute of Political Science. Her research focuses on the effect of Russian media intake on voting behavior in former communist countries in Europe and Central Asia. She is interested in authoritarian diffusion, media and voting behavior, and Eastern Europe and Central Asia politics.
