Research on child-friendly healthcare

For a lot of children, undergoing medical treatment can lead to feelings of stress and anxiety. The project It’s a Kind of Magic explores the implementation of magic and illusions in pediatric healthcare, to optimize expectancies and alleviate their distress. The goal of this project is to further improve paediatric healthcare in a child-friendly manner.

The PhD is an interdisciplinary collaboration between Willem-Alexander Children’s Hospital (WAKZ) of Leiden University Medical Center, Victor Mids (Dutch illusionist and ambassador WAKZ) and Leiden University.

Short CV

Versluis obtained her Clinical Neuropsychology MSc degree in June 2022 (cum laude) at Leiden University and started her PhD at the department shortly after. She's intrigued by the link between psychology and health in vulnerable groups. Her previous studies investigated the impact of chemotherapy-induced alopecia (hair loss) on female cancer-patients.
