Alessia joined the Industrial Ecology department of CML in September 2024 as a PhD researcher in the Materials-GRoWL project.
Professional experience
In 2021, Alessia graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Global Sustainability Science from Utrecht University, with a bachelor’s thesis on resource circularity. She then pursued a joint master’s program in Industrial Ecology at Leiden University and TU Delft, where her master’s thesis delved into the material stocks of the urban built environment in Lima, Peru, and the societal services they provide.
Research topic
As part of the Materials-GRoWL project, Alessia will focus on mapping the material stocks used in major human settlements in South America. By doing so, the material composition of the built environment and the societal functions they fulfill can be better understood. Furthermore, this can allow for assessing the environmental and socioeconomic impacts of the materials under multiple scenarios. Alessia aspires to use this knowledge to contribute to the development of sustainable cities, with a focus on societal well-being.
