Agnieszka Jabłonowska is a post-doctoral researcher in the Vici project 'These Shoes Don’t Fit! – How can consumer interests be protected when consumer identities are increasingly diffuse?' carried out at the Institute of Private Law. She obtained her PhD degree in 2021 from the University of Lodz, Poland after defending her doctoral dissertation entitled 'Consumer protection and the platform-driven transformation of the travel sector: a way forward for European Union law'. She also holds a master’s degree from the same university (with a year at the Humboldt University of Berlin) and an LL.M. degree from the European University Institute in Florence.

Prior to joining the Leiden University she held post-doctoral positions at the EUI and at the Institute of Law Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences. She was also a fellow at the AI & Society Lab, Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society in Berlin and a visiting researcher at several research centres, including the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University, the Tilburg Institute for Private Law at Tilburg University, the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg and the European Legal Studies Institute at Osnabrück University.

Agnieszka’s academic interests lie at the intersection of law and technology, with a focus on consumer protection. She is also interested in the connection between protecting weaker parties and fostering sustainability. Before starting in Leiden Agnieszka has been involved in national and international research projects focusing on online platforms ('Consumer protection in the collaborative economy – a comparative analysis' funded by the National Science Centre in Poland and 'Model Rules on Online Platforms' carried out at the European Law Institute) and artificial intelligence ('Consumer protection and artificial intelligence. Between law and ethics' and 'Citizen empowerment through online terms of service review: an automated transparency assessment by explainable AI', both funded by the National Science Centre in Poland, as well as 'Artificial intelligence systems and consumer law & policy' and 'Semantic clauses understanding and detection', both carried out at the European University Institute). In her most recent work she combines doctrinal and theoretical approaches with insights from legal informatics.
