Adrien Dadone is a researcher at the Centre for Linguistics. He is currently a deaf postdoctoral researcher in sign language linguistics on the VICI project Through the hands of signers (PI: Victoria Nyst). Within this project, he traces the historical connections between the sign languages used by deaf people, monastic sign languages, and the gestures of the surrounding hearing culture. Another strand of his work compares the linguistic systems of a spoken language and a sign language, identifying their points of convergence and divergence. He is particularly interested in the differences that arise specifically from modality, and I examine their theoretical implications.
