This study aims to get a better understanding of the urban network in the North-Western Alpine region during the Roman period. Therefore, attention will be paid to pre-roman urban structures, their administrative organization, and their location in the landscape. This will help to understand the changes and developments of the region after the Roman conquest. In order to understand every-day life in these region, different layers of the urban network will be investigated. The Roman urban centres will be approached not only from a juridical point of view, also different types of functions and services will contribute to the possible meaning of an urban place.
