Religion Explored: Origin, Function and Meaning
How do ideas concerning the academic study of religion relate to the socio-cultural and political context in which they are developed?
The academic study of religion started in the second half of the 19 th century. From that time onward a few shifts in perspective can be observed in the study of religion. In this project the shifts themselves, the variety of questions, and the reasons for these changing perspectives will be studied, and they will be related to the socio-cultural and political context of the period in which the changes took place.
