Plant Growth Facility
- Application
- IBL researchers use the facility to study a wide range of wildtype and transgenic plants, including Arabidopsis, tomato, barley, rice, lettuce, radish, ornamentals, and various trees. Research also involves the interaction between plants and various microorganisms and insects, providing valuable insights into plant biology, development, and ecology.
- Availability
- The Plant Growth Facility is open for IBL researchers. Before starting any work in the facility, all users must attend an introduction session. GMO training is required if you need access to GMO-classified areas. Every user of the facility must follow the rules and protocols, which can be found in the Teams environment.

The Plant Growth Facility (PGF) is spread across the ground, 3rd, and 5th floor of Sylvius Laboratory. It includes a Potting Lab (PL-I), an Arabidopsis Harvesting Lab (ML-I), several washrooms (kitchens), and 50 climate and tissue culture rooms designated for both non-GMO and GMO (PC-I, PCM-I, and PCM-II) research. In these rooms, we carefully regulate temperature, relative humidity, and light settings to create optimal conditions for plant growth and experiments.
To book a climate room, please complete the Plant Growth Facility Request Form and submit it as instructed. For any questions, assistance, or specific requests, feel free to contact us at PGF@biology.leidenuniv.nl.
