Creative thinking about subjects, methods and dissemination through arts-based methods
Arts-based research in Medical Anthropology part 1
What can arts-based methods and artistic research bring to Medical Anthropology? On Friday the 6th of February 2026, LUMAN members gathered at the Leyden Academy on Vitality and Ageing to discuss arts-based research. Unfortunately, on that day train disruptions to and from Leiden prevented both speakers and several attendees from joining. Nonetheless, those present used the meeting to discuss their experiences with arts-based methods.
Putting what we preach into practice, we thematically organized our discussions by using arts-based methods. This led to three collages: one capturing methods, one capturing the subjects that can be approached with arts-based methods and one directing us towards arts as means of communication and dissemination. The three collages, pictured below, sparked a wealth of new conversations and ideas.
In the fall, we will come together for the session that was originally planned, bringing the previously gathered inspiration to the table. Stay tuned for part 2!
