Annual Levenbach Day 2025 in Leiden

The annual Levenbach Day was held on Wednesday 27 August, bringing together lecturers and researchers with expertise in labour and social security law. The event is named after Marius Levenbach, the first professor in labour law in the Netherlands.

This year, the Levenbach Day was organised by Leiden University. The theme was ‘Free space, clear boundaries? On inclusion in the lecture hall – from outspoken opinions to silent barriers’.

The historic Old Observatory in Leiden provided the backdrop for a rich and engaging programme. The day was opened by assistant professor in social history Paul van Trigt, with his lecture ‘Silent reform: Labour law and the extraordinary history of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities’. Afterwards, there was an interactive theatre workshop organised by Ieke van Dam (PhD candidate at ICLON) and Arjen de Vetten (educational advisor and researcher at ICLON). Together with the participants, they explored familiar situations that arise when teaching, using theatre as a means to support diversity, equality and inclusion.

The day concluded with drinks in the Academy Building.
