Redundancy pay for Dutch ex-ministers

After the fall of the Dutch cabinet, the Party for Freedom (PVV) ministers have resigned. They are now entitled to redundancy pay. Barend Barentsen, Professor of Labour Law, answered questions on the topic in the NPO podcast ‘Alledaagse Vragen’.

Why do they get redundancy pay? How long are they entitled to it? How much is it? Are they obliged to apply for other jobs? In the NPO podcast Alledaagse Vragen (everyday questions), Barend Barentsen discussed these issues.  The redundancy pay scheme is more generous than standard unemployment benefit. But then again: politicians can also lose their jobs overnight. And former ministers are also expected to actively look for new work.
