The Just Peace Festival's first edition is live! The Opening Event marked the beginning of two weeks filled with activities to reflect on what peace and justice mean in today's world.
Held at Amare's Kunstenplein, the evening was the rusult of months of collaboration between partners, including the City of The Hague, Leiden University, and The Hague Humanity Hub. It was a first glipse at what will be happening in the next two weeks: discussion, performances, exhibitions, and conversations about what peace and justice mean for people around the globe.
The event was kicked off with welcoming words from the Mayor of The Hague, Jan van Zanen; Leiden University's Rector Magnificus, Professor Hester Bijl; and The Hague Humanity Hub's Managing Director, Jill Wilkinson.

After opening remarks, the stage was taken over by a live contemporary art and dance performance, Hidden Within the Body.
The performance was followed by a panel discussion with the artists involved in the nights main event, the opening of the exhibition 'Creativity in Times of Tension' curated by NGO Dei, Human Rights in the Picture and The Hague Humanity Hub. The exhibition focuses on seeking hope in a world where conflict, inequality, and climate challenges affect so many the lives of billions. It is an exhibition that makes room for that hope. Not by ignoring the problems people face, but by looking at them honestly through art, stories, and shared experiences.
Creativity in Times of Tension will be open to the public until 26 June 2025, at Amare's Kunstenplein. No registration required.
