Yvonne Bleyerveld appointed as Professor Art on Paper and Parchment
On 1 October, Yvonne Bleyerveld, Senior Curator Drawings and Prints at the RKD, becomes the Professor by Special Appointment 'Art on Paper and Parchment' at the Faculty of Humanities of Leiden University. The chair, established by the Netherlands Institute for Art History (RKD), is hosted by the Leiden University Center for the Arts in Society (LUCAS) and the Department of Art History.
Impressive track record
Yvonne Bleyerveld (1967) studied Art History at Vrije Universiteit (Amsterdam) and received her PhD in 1999 under the supervision of professor emeritus Ilja Veldman with her dissertation Hoe bedriechlijck dat die vrouwen zijn. Vrouwenlisten in de beeldende kunst in de Nederlanden circa 1350-1650 (published in Leiden 2000). Subsequently she held research and lecturing posts at VU Amsterdam and Utrecht University. Between 2008 and 2017 Yvonne worked as a freelance art historian and editor for various museums. She was appointed Senior Curator Drawings and Prints, c. 1500-1800 at the RKD in 2017.
Art on Paper and Parchment
For her appointment as endowed professor Yvonne will work one day a week for Leiden University Centre for the Arts in Society (LUCAS) and the Department of Art History. The chair is a collaboration between the RKD and Leiden University. Professor Chris Stolwijk, General director of the RKD: ‘The RKD is very pleased that Leiden University supports the foundation of the Art on Paper and Parchment chair. The Dutch academic art history field will profit from such a teaching commitment. Both Leiden University and the RKD are convinced that Yvonne is the right person for the job, both due to her years of experience and her extensive international network, and believe that she will provide an important contribution to research and education of new generations of art historians.’
Yvonne has published several articles on Netherlandish drawings and prints from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. She recently contributed to the publications Bosch to Bloemaert. Early Netherlandish Drawings in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen (2014), The Netherlandish Drawings of the 16th Century in Teylers Museum (2016) and Slow Food. Dutch and Flemish Meal Still Lifes 1600-1640 (2017). For The New Hollstein she wrote a volume on the woodcut production by the sixteenth century painter and print maker Jacob Cornelisz. Yvonne is member of the editorial board of Oud Holland. Journal for Art of the Low Countries, Teylers Tweede Genootschap (Teyler’s Second Society) and of the Duparc Prize jury of the Mauritshuis.
