Three introduction weeks for Leiden University students. The choice is yours

Leiden or The Hague? Dutch or English? These two questions decide which introduction week new Leiden University students should choose: EL CID, HOP or OWL.

EL CID

Leiden – mainly Dutch – 5 to 19 August

EL CID has been holding an introduction week for Leiden University students since 1970. It’s the ideal way to get to know one another, senior students, the University and all the city and student life have to offer.
Due to the corona measures, EL CID 2020 will be different from previous years. From Wednesday 5 to Friday 7 August there will be an online programme on a large online platform. From Sunday 9 to Wednesday 19 August there will be ten in-person days in Leiden. You will be invited to one of them with a group of other new students. It’s up you to decide whether you come along.

HOP

The Hague – Dutch & English – 17 to 21 August.

Leiden University has a presence in two cities: Leiden and The Hague. The University has been offering a full introduction week in The Hague since 2016: HOPweek. This week is especially for students from the bachelor’ s programmes in Public Administration, International Studies, International Relations & Organisations, and Security Studies. Students from the master’s programmes that are taught in The Hague can also join in. Get to know one another, the programme and student life in The Hague.
HOP is also adjusting its programme because of coronavirus. What shape the programme will take exactly isn’t yet clear, but the team is working hard on it! Check the website for updates.

OWL

Leiden – English – 24 to 28 August

Five days of fun, music, culture, sports, games and making new friends: that’s Orientation Week Leiden or OWL for short. This week is for new international students at Leiden University, but Dutch master’s students are also welcome!
In 2020, the OWL will be a fully blended introduction week. This means that the full introduction can be followed from home, but that there will also be offline activities for those who are able to come to Leiden.
