Films from 2018 you mustn't miss!

2018 was filled with interesting developments at Leiden University. We try to record as many of them as possible, including in short videos. Here are five films that we think you mustn't miss!

Solar panels on the roof of the Gorlaeus building

It seems as if when the architects of the Gorlaeus lecture building drew up their designs in the 1970s, they took into account the current concern for energy transition. Since the summer of 2018, the roof of the 'dish' as it is referred to, has been covered with solar panels.

First Education Festival was a great success

The first Education Festival was organised in 2018 in PLNT, the Leiden centre for innovation and entrepreneurship. It was an opportunity forducation innovators from Leiden and The Hague to come together to exchange ideas. Students created an enormous artwork specially for the occasion.

Sustainable building - and demolition

Sustainable building is something we are all familiar with. But sustainable demolition? The old laboratories at the Faculty of Science were demolished in 2018 and most of the material from the demolition was re-used. Watch the video to see how that works.

Women take over the Senate Chamber

Until recently only portraits of male professors were on display in the Senate Chamber of the Academy Building. That really doesn't reflect the situation in academia in the present day. So, on International Women's Day 14 new portraits of female professors were unveiled.
