Flipping the Bio-chemistry II Classroom

Our educational team has been awarded an ICTO-grant of €12000 for the LACDR for flipping the Biochemistry 2 classroom.

The project includes support from the Online Learning Lab production team and €12000 for the institute to contract a supporting student-assistant, starting with a kick-off meeting on the 9th of March and including evaluation of the course towards the end of 2016.

About Flipping the Classroom

Flipping the classroom is a form of blended learning in which the purpose of face-to-face activities in class are reconsidered. By stimulating students to prepare online for class, the time in class can be used for group discussions and integration of existing knowledge. This instructional strategy appeals to two main aspects for education quality improvement in the W&N online learning plan: activating students and giving direct feedback.

The workgroup exercises that will be designed for Biochemistry 2, will promote critical and analytical thinking. These are essential skills for the student to become an independent drug researcher, which is not obvious in a classical lecturing course. It is expected that students will retain the information longer and will be better prepared for the subsequent research-driven Biochemistry 2 lab course.
