Celebration of 50 years of Independence of The Republic of Indonesia at LEAD
On Friday, the 24th of November 1995, a joint celebration took place in the Great Auditorium of the Academy of Leiden University on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia on invitation by H.E. Drs. J.B. Soedarmanto Kadarisman, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia and Prof.Dr. L. Jan Slikkerveer, Director of the LEAD Programme of Leiden University, highlighted by a Public Lecture of Mrs.Dr. Martha Tilaar from Jakarta on The Role of Indonesian Medicinal Plants in Health Promotion in Indonesia’.
Following the lecture, Mrs. Rima Melati introduced the performance of several traditional dances by a group of dancers from Indonesia, including Pengantin Betawi (Traditional Wedding Ceremony), Tari Belantek (Jakarta), Tari Merak (Sunda) and Tari Tarunajaya (Bali), supported by the Istika Gamelan live music. The unique celebration in the Auditorium was concluded by a joint Angklung performance, followed by special drinks and delicacies in the Reception Hall.
