Netherlands Institute in Turkey

About

As part of a cooperation agreement between the Stichting Nederlands Institute in Turkije (NIT Foundation) with Koç University in Istanbul, the institute is located within the premises of the Koç University ANAMED Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations, in the central Beyoğlu district of Istanbul.

NIT provides an education semester to BA students of Middle Eastern and Turkish Studies, and offers extra-curricular courses at undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate level that are open to participants from all universities, often internationally. Several times a year, MA and PhD students and postdocs can apply for a residential fellowship of one month at NIT.

The library of the Netherlands Institute in Turkey is a valuable resource for research on the archaeology and history of Anatolia and Istanbul. Students and researchers can make use of the collections in the premises of the institute.

Building on the scientific expertise and research interests of NIT staff, the long-term research programs of the institute belong to the realm of archaeology and heritage studies. The staff is actively involved in archaeological fieldwork, student training programs and scholarly publication efforts. NIT’s heritage programs, carried out under the banner of NIT Urban Heritage Lab, have strong public outreach and valorization components and are conducted in collaboration with partners within and beyond academia, in the Netherlands and Turkey.

The website of the Netherlands Institute in Turkey (www.nit-istanbul.org) provides more extensive information on the facilities, services and activities of the institute.
