Foundation for Austrian Studies
In 1990 the Foundation for Austrian Studies founded a Special Chair for Central European Studies at Leiden University.
Professor Nicolette Mout held this special chair from 1990 to 2010. Professor Jeroen Duindam obtained the Leiden chair for Modern History in 2010, but the special chair for Central European Studies was left vacant until 2017. In June 2017, the Foundation for Austrian Studies and Leiden University appointed Dr. Monika Baár to the Special Chair for Central European Studies. After four years of dedicated service to the Foundation and the Chair, Dr. Baár decided to step back due to shifting (research) priorities. As of June 2021, Professor Jeroen Duindam acts as interim director and chair.
The Foundation board currently prepares the procedure for the appointment of a new incumbent of the Special Chair. The vacancy for the special chair has been announced online. The Foundation expects to welcome the new chair in the academic year 2022-2023.
