What is Population Health Management?
Do you want to contribute to future-proof health and care? If you have a strong interest in improving healthcare and wish to look beyond a career as a doctor or researcher, then this two-year interdisciplinary master is for you.
About the Experience Day
During this Experience Day, you will gain a broader insight in what it is like to study Population Health Management. You will follow mini lectures and work on a case study about one of the real challenges in our health care system.
Next to that, you will have the opportunity to talk to our alumni and master staff about the master programme, career aspects and any other questions you may have. Also, our student ambassadors are present to tell you more about the life as a PHM student.

Welcome & Introduction | 14:45– 15:00
You'll be welcomed to the PHM Experience Day and have the opportunity to get acquainted with fellow participants.
The challenges of tomorrow: Why PHM? | 15:00 - 15:20
Discover why Population Health Management has become increasingly important in today's healthcare landscape.
This interactive introduction explores some of the major societal challenges facing healthcare systems, including population ageing, workforce shortages, rising healthcare costs and the need for stronger collaboration across healthcare organisations.
By understanding these challenges, you'll gain valuable context before experiencing how PHM approaches real-world health issues.
PHM in practice: interactive case study | 15:20 - 15:50
Experience firsthand how Population Health Management professionals think and work.
Together with other participants, you'll work on a contemporary public health challenge and explore possible solutions from a PHM perspective.
This session offers a deeper insight into the programme than is typically possible during an Open Day and forms the academic heart of the Experience Day.
Campus tour | 15:55 - 16:30
Get a closer look at the learning environment and facilities where PHM students study.
The tour helps bring the programme to life and provides a more concrete impression of student life at Leiden University Medical Center.
PHM Through the Eyes of a Student | 16:35 - 17:30
Current students will share their personal experiences and discuss topics such as:
- Why they chose PHM
- Expectations versus reality
- Study workload
- Projects and group work
- Career prospects and future opportunities
This interactive session offers plenty of opportunity to ask questions and engage in conversation with current students and academic staff. After the student panel, there will be time to continue discussions, seek personalised advice, and connect with members of the PHM community.
