How do we make sense of the world’s biggest challenges - climate change, inequality, migration, threats to democracy? And more importantly: how can we imagine better futures?
At Leiden University College (LUC), we explore these questions through play.
What is Game Night?
Game Night is an interactive fair where you don’t just hear about global challenges, you experience them through games.
Over the past year, first-year LUC students have designed serious games: games that help players explore complex real-world issues. Now, we invite you to:
- Play their games
- Talk with student designers
- Reflect on global challenges in new ways
What will you be doing?
When you arrive, we’ll help you get started by guiding you to a few games. No need to choose right away. After that, you’re free to wander, explore, and play whatever catches your interest.
Each game offers a playful way into a real-world issue.
For example, you might explore the hidden systems behind fast fashion or experience the challenges of migration and arrival in the Netherlands.
There’s no set route. Just follow your curiosity and enjoy the experience.
Who is this for?
Teachers looking for innovative, game-based teaching tools. The game concepts are designed for the classroom and will be made available on our repository under Creative Commons licensing.
Secondary school students curious about global issues and university learning.
Prospective students wanting to experience what studying at LUC is like.
Leiden University staff & students who enjoy games or are curious about LUC, our teaching and game-based learning
Anyone who enjoys thoughtful, interactive games
Why games?
Games are powerful because they let you explore complex systems hands-on, inhabit new perspectives, experiment with decisions and consequences, and have fun failing!
