During this event, you will attend a lecture from the course Case Study Syria, taught by Prof.dr. E. Bakker. This will give you a clear impression of whether the programme matches your interests and if it could be the right choice for you.

One of our student ambassadors will welcome you at our Wijnhaven building and share first-hand insights about the programme and studying in The Hague. You will also have plenty of opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

If you decide to join this Student for a Day event, you will:

• attend the lecture 'The rise of ISIS, terrorism in Europe' of the course 'Case Study Syria'; 
• meet current students;
• have the chance to ask all your questions about this programme and student life;
• get a tour of the faculty building.

It’s an ideal opportunity to get to know the BSc Security Studies even better. 

Who can participate?

To participate in the Student-for-a-Day event, you preferably visited one of our events, like the Open Day. In any case you should be in your final or next-to-final year of university preparatory high school. 

Programme

The programme will be as follows:

08:45 -  09:15  hrs	Join the student ambassador on Campus. Scan your QRcode at the reception of Wijnhaven
09:15 - 11:00 hrs	Joining (first part of) the lecture
11:00– 11:15 hrs	Time for questions
11:15- 12:00 hrs	If you'd like to, you can join the second part of the lecture as well

After your registration, you will receive an email with more information and a QR code a few days before this event.

About the course 'Case Study Syria'

This course will provide an introduction into the study of contemporary conflict in the Middle East, exploring conflict dynamics and security implications. Students will examine and discuss how conflicts can develop into internationalised civil wars, generating security debates around terrorism, migration, gender, war crimes and international law, among others. Students will do so by focusing on the Syrian civil war as a case study. Students will examine the trajectory of this contemporary conflict in the Middle East in relation to other political developments in the region post-Arab Spring. Read more
