In this event Mina Pollmann (Japan Research Fellow, Leiden Asia Centre), Thomas Kavadias (Policy Officer East Asia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and Casper Wits (Lecturer in East Asian Studies, Leiden University) will have a wide-ranging discussion about the significance of Sanae Takaichi as Japan's first female prime minister, and what to expect from her new government. We will look at Takaichi's personal background and reputation as an (ultra)nationalist; the ramifications for Japan's defense policy; expectations for Japan's international relations with China, the US, and the EU; and much more.

After this, there will be plenty of time for a Q&A and discussion with the audience.
