Last year, we were honoured to welcome Professor Tom Tyler as a keynote speaker. For this year's kick-off event, Professor Lee Epstein will be coming to Rotterdam in person. Not only will she give the keynote speech; she will also give a workshop on the second day of the event.
Lee Epstein is Professor of Law & Political Science at the University of Southern California. Professor Epstein is an expert in empirical legal studies, with a focus on law and courts, and has received numerous awards and published articles in prestigious international journals including the American Journal of Political Science; the Journal of Law, Economics, & Organization; Journal of Legal Analysis and through top publishing houses such as Oxford University Press. Her work is frequently cited and highly impactful. For example, she serves as Principal Investigator of the U.S. Supreme Court Database, which is used by many academics. Besides her scientific contribution, she is a talented lecturer and teaches a huge number of legal and ELS courses, for which she has also received awards.
Other parts of the programme include presentation sessions by early career academics, feedback from senior researchers, hands-on practical sessions and a group assignment on research design, where one group has a chance to win a research grant!
