Open Science in Criminology - barriers and opportunities

Making data findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable (FAIR) is a pillar of Open Science. Yet, privacy regulations hinder the implementation of FAIR principles in research fields working with sensitive data. In this OSCoffee, Katharina Krüsselmann will present the challenges faced by many researchers in the discipline of criminology when it comes to sharing interviews with terrorists, individual-level data of victims or offenders of violent crime and more. Current initiatives, such as the NOW-subsidized SENSYN or Open Criminology, are presented as examples of how the discipline can move forward to overcome said challenges.
