Amigo Secreto (directed by Maria Augusta Ramos) follows a group of investigative journalists as they uncover the role of ‘lawfare’, the illicit use of the law as weapon against political opponents, in the recent so-called ‘anti-corruption’ operation in Brazil known as Lava Jato. This operation led to the unlawful imprisonment of ex-President Lula in 2018 and paved the way for Bolsonaro’s victory that same year. This outstanding documentary provides a unique insight into this case of lawfare, which threatened Brazilian democracy and in the light of which Lula’s recent re-election to a third term in office is all the more remarkable.
The screening will start at 16:00 on Thursday 17 November in Lipsius room 1.19. Afterwards there will be a Q&A with the director of the documentary.
