The sea البحر

A literary salon in the Arabic tradition, centered around THE SEA. Performing are young as well as well-known poets:

Yassin Adnan (Marokko) is a poet, presenter and maker of Masharif  (a weekly cultural programme on Moroccan television), author of short stories and of the laurelled novel Hot Maroc.

Nisrine Mbarki (Nederland) published her first volume of poetry, Oeverloos, in 2022. She contributes to large literary festivals such as Poetry International en Winternachten as programme maker and editor, and she translates works of Arabic poets into Dutch.

Maarten Doorman (Nederland), poet, author/essayist and professor of philosophy, is a buttress of Dutch culture.

Ranwa Alamassi (from Bahrayn) has already published four volumes of poetry in Arabic. She is a programme maker at Perdu (platform for poetry and literature in Amsterdam) and a MA student in Leiden.

Bakr al-Jaber (from Syria) studies political sciences in Leiden. He was nominated for the El-Hijra prize for literature in 2020.

Jawa Manla (born in Aleppo) sings and plays the Arabic instrument par excellence, the ud. She enjoys combining traditions from jazz to Fairouz, from Andalusian to classical European and is building an brilliant career as a musician.
