The moment has finally arrived: Leiden is the European hotspot of science in 2022! We would like to invite you to the official opening of Leiden European City of Science 2022, with special national and international guests.

Voyage of discovery through Leiden

The opening will be broadcast during an online film premiere on January 22 at 14:00 via leiden2022.nl/opening. Anyone who is interested can watch. In the opening film for Leiden European City of Science, biologist and artist Auke-Florian Hiemstra goes on a voyage of discovery through Leiden, where he has a series of extraordinary encounters.

Astrophysicist Ewine van Dishoeck will talk about the launch of the James Webb telescope, singer Nynke Laverman will sing about the importance of future generations and rheumatologist Ferry Breedveld will talk about the prestigious EuroScience Open Forum that will take place in Leiden in July.

Professor Ton Rabelink will talk from the Leiden Bio Science Park about the NecstGen innovations and artist Jan van IJken will show his film PLANKTONIUM. The film will conclude in European style with a mini-lecture on the magic of quantum theory by physicist Carlo Rovelli and a contribution by Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth.
