About the programme English Language and Culture

In today’s world English is everywhere – from literature to films, from trade to international politics. In our bachelor’s programme, you will acquire an excellent command of spoken and written English, and explore the language structure and the mechanics behind language acquisition. Moreover, you will study the cultures of English-speaking countries in-depth, while analysing the interaction between language changes and changes in society. This bachelor’s programme is unique in the Netherlands for the width of its scope. It covers English in all its varieties, from the Middle Ages to the present day. We offer four specialisations: Language Acquisition, Literature, Linguistics and Philology. After graduation, your knowledge and academic and personal skills will support you in finding a high-level job, for instance in publishing, journalism or the government.
