About the programme African Studies

In the African Studies bachelor’s programme, you study Africa from an Africa-centered perspective, with a critical eye on the external, often Eurocentric view. You will explore the continent’s history, languages, literature and art, while also looking at its economic and political role in today’s globalised world. Additionally, you will learn Swahili and spend a semester in an African country, perfecting your language skills and getting an inside view of African daily life. After graduation, you will find that your knowledge and skills are sought after on the job market. You could work for, instance, as a translator, journalist, editor or policy adviser.
