The annual Owada Chair symposium takes place alternately in Leiden and Tokyo.

Although Professor Owada formally holds the chair, its scientific contribution comes more from an annually appointed keynote speaker.

In addition to the keynote speech, students and PhDs from Leiden University and the University of Tokyo debate the symposium theme and give presentations to each other.
