Field Research Education Centre
Fieldwork is a crucial part of the learning process for students in the Faculty of Archaeology. This includes both fieldwork aimed at collecting archaeological data and materials as well as fieldwork for heritage studies. The Faculty has established a specific centre of expertise to further shape these fieldwork components for our students: the Field Research Education Centre.
As an expertise centre, we bring together all the knowledge and experience within the Faculty to coordinate and innovate fieldwork education.
Thus it plays an important organising and executive role in the annual Field School that introduces first-year students to archaeological practice. In the further course of the programme's curriculum, the centre helps organise in-depth projects in the Netherlands as well as abroad. Students may also contact us to set up internships they want to do with excavation companies or social (heritage) partners.
