Factory Workers as Domestic Migrants in China
Supervisor: Frank Pieke

My PHD research focuses on a special community in China’s Big Danwei today: the factory workers as domestic immigrants in the state-owned enterprise/factory. And I intend to articulate and answer the questions below:

To what extent, this constructed social groups shape and transfer the modern China’s modernity (and I define China’s modernity as: a procedure of modernization not only taking place in the sphere of material production, but also the sphere of mind/space production)? How they describe their beloved identity which may be chose from sets of identities? What the relationship they think between individuals and collectives? What they think when ask them the questions about their hometown they left for a long time? How they feel when state policies change and affect their lives, etc.
