The research field of Dr. Choi is Classical Literature of the 18th and 19th centuries. She is interested in Korean intellectual history and social culture of these periods and in connecting modern and pre-modern times. She has taught Korean Literature in Classical Chinese and Korean Studies at SKKU in Korea. Educating Korean literature and philosophy is necessary for understanding Korean literature. It also expands its educational field to Korean studies for non-Korean students to develop Korean studies and educational competencies.

Research

-    The Intellectual’s Expanding Perceptions of ‘Identity’ and ‘the Other’ at the End of the Joseon Dynasty
-    (Virtual) Space/Epistemology in Literature in the Late Joseon Dynasty
-    A New Trend in Literature in the Late Joseon Period – on the Classification and Arrangement of Knowledge

Currently, she is working with researchers from North American Universities majoring in comparative literature to conduct an academic translation project that translates Korean classics into English.
