Thijs de Boer's research focusses on voluntary accountability practices of regulatory agencies on the national and European level. His dissertation aims at explaining what drives regulatory agencies to proactively engage in accountability obligations and which conditions help to explain this frequently observed behavior.

Thijs de Boer is PhD candidate at the Institute of Public Administration. He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Public Administration and Organizational Science, which he obtained at Utrecht University.

His research focusses on voluntary accountability practices of regulatory agencies on the national and European level. His dissertation aims at explaining what drives regulatory agencies to proactively engage in accountability obligations and which conditions help to explain this frequently observed behavior. His research particularly focuses on reputational motivations. This research is part of a larger research program called ‘Reputation Matters in the Regulatory State’ (EUREKA).
