Career
Saadat completed her bachelor's degree in Psychology at Leiden University. Afterwards, she continued to obtain a Research Master of Science in Brain & Cognitive Sciences at the University of Amsterdam. During her graduate education, Saadat spent one semester conducting a research project at the University of Cambridge (MRC Brain and Cognition Unit). Her research projects involved investigating neurobiological and cognitive underpinnings of trauma processing and fear learning.
Shortly after graduating, she started working as a neuropsychologist at a neurorehabilitation facility. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she started teaching at Leiden University and working at a psychiatric hospital. Saadat has worked in the field of geriatric psychiatry and psychosomatic illnesses. She is currently working in the field of addiction psychiatry and focuses on treating patients with opioid and alcohol addiction. Saadat is interested in continuing further professionalisation whilst teaching. She deeply values the connection between academia and clinical practice. In 2023, she obtained certification in EMDR therapy.
Prior to studying Psychology, Saadat obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English Studies where she investigated identity formation in the Iranian diaspora through literature
Teaching
Saadat teaches clinically-oriented courses in the international track of the Psychology bachelor programme and supervises theses groups. In 2024, she was nominated by her students and shortlisted as a finalist by the LUS committee for the 'Teacher Of The Year' award of Leiden University.
