More information about Sanne Rotmeijer

Sanne Rotmeijer works as a postdoc researcher at the Centre for the Arts in Society (LUCAS) in the ERC-project ARTIVES and as a lecturer in International and Urban Studies at the Leiden University (Campus The Hague).
With a background in practical philosophy (MA, humanistic studies) and anthropology (PhD), Sanne’s work resides at the intersection of (popular) media and art, diversity, and postcolonial urbanity. Her PhD research focused on the creative processes of turning events into stories in everyday news practices, exploring how they generate senses of belonging in the Dutch Caribbean.
As part of the ARTIVES project, she will be conducting ethnographic research on imaginings of diversity and belonging as portrayed and enacted by Dutch Caribbean and Surinamese performance, spoken word, and storytelling artists in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
