Samarth Varma received his MSc. in cognitive neuropsychology from the University of Edinburgh, UK. As a research assistant at Edinburgh and later at the University of Cambridge, he acquired experience in behavioural and neuroimaging research in the field of working memory, episodic memory and language processing. In his PhD research at the Donders Institute in Nijmegen, Samarth investigated the effects of post-learning thoughts on episodic memory consolidation. Alongside the PhD, he also worked as a lecturer of psychology at Tilburg University. His current research focuses on neuroimaging of memory consolidation during different mind-wandering states, and developing tasks that reduce forgetting by suppressing learning-unrelated thoughts in the post-learning period.
